Electoral Register

Public document

The electoral register/voters roll is a public document available for inspection which lists everyone who is entitled to vote in the district.

We hold two versions - the full published version and the edited version.

Full register

This lists everyone who is entitled to vote. Only certain people and organisations can have copies of this, and they can only use it for specified purposes.

Inspection is under supervision and information taken from this version cannot be used for commercial purposes. Photocopying or electronic recording is not permitted by law.

Edited register

This is more readily available and can be used for any purpose and any person or organisation can buy a copy and use it for commercial activities such as marketing.

If you do NOT want to appear in this version make sure you indicate on your voter registration form or annual canvass form your desire to opt-out of appearing. You can also permanently opt-out so we do not ask you again each year.

We update the register monthly (click on monthly revisions timetable below). By law we also have to carry out an annual canvass. We'll hand deliver a form to your home each year during the summer/early Autumn so you can let us know whether your circumstances have changed or not.

However this year (2013),  the canvass will commence later - from 1st October 2013 as the publication date for the revised register will be 17 February 2014 - this will be the register in force for the European Parliamentary election in May/June 2014 - date to be determined.

You can then register to vote by:

  • returning the form in the post
  • ringing our freephone number
  • sending a text message; or
  • by registering on-line

Outside of this period you have to register by completing our rolling voter registration form - see below.

How many people are registered to vote?

99% of those eligible to vote are now registered.

Take a look at our canvass statistics for previous years here.

Please note that we are under a duty to protect public funds so may use the information you provide on registration forms to help prevent and detect fraud.  We may also share this information with other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds.
