website (see below).
The following items are examples of hazardous waste:
- Televisions
- Computer monitors
- Fluorescent lighting
- Fridges
- Paint (oil and solvent based)
- Car batteries
- Engine oil
- Gas bottles
- Disinfectants and solvents
- Asbestos (see below)
What can I do with hazardous waste?
Household hazardous waste can be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centres sites located
across Staffordshire.
Please take due care when transporting the above items. Speak
with a member of staff on arrival at the site and clearly state
what item you are depositing.
Note: Household Waste Recycling Centres will only
accept household hazardous waste. Commercial waste will
not be taken. Due to space restrictions on containers at civic
sites, it may be necessary to check that capacity is available
before transporting hazardous waste to the site.
Household Waste Recycling Centre staff may ascertain
the nature of the hazardous waste taken. Hazardous waste generated
from commercial use must be disposed of through a private
contractor. The Environment Agency links below includes a full list
of licensed waste carriers.
Asbestos
The
DirectGov website has an information page on asbestos,
including details for safe removal and a helpline for members of
the public.
Waste duty of care regulations state
that householders have a responsibility to ensure that any waste
removed from their property is disposed of in the correct manner.
Follow the link below for full details.
For further information on hazardous waste and its disposal,
contact a member of staff using the details below. The Household
Waste Recycling Centre webpage contains full details of sites
including locations and opening hours.
Information on hazardous waste regulations at National and
European level can be found on the Defra website. The Environment
Agency website contains information on licensed waste carriers for
commercial disposal.
There are no financial costs associated with the disposal of
household hazardous waste at Household Waste Recycling Centres. If
it is suspected however that hazardous waste is generated from
commercial ventures, it will not be accepted.
Hazardous commercial waste must be disposed of by a licensed
waste carrier.
