Job hunters head to new Wombourne work club
More than 30 job
hunters from the South Staffordshire village of Wombourne have
already taken advantage of the village’s new work club. The work
club’s first session took place in November with job hunters in the
village being given the opportunity to bolster their CV and get
back to work.
The new work club is now running every
fortnight with the next session being held at Wombourne Library on
Tuesday 10th January, 10am -12 noon.
The Wombourne Work Club is the fifth work club
to open in the district after successful clubs were launched in
Huntington, Codsall & Bilbrook, Perton and Featherstone earlier
in the year. The work clubs are designed for local people who are
out of work and are looking for a helping hand to get a job.
They can get advice and support from
employment experts and local businesses, as well as gain formal
qualifications. Job seekers will also get top tips and advice
about preparing CV’s, filling in online job applications, covering
letters, interview techniques and job searching.
The club, which is being supported by South
Staffordshire Council, is part of a new initiative to help local
people back into work. The club is also being supported by district
and county councillor Robert Reade, who has stumped up £1,000 from
his county council Local Community Fund to back the project.
Councillor Reade
said:
“It was a great turn out in
the first two sessions so we’re hoping that the word will spread
and we’ll continue to get people through the doors who we can help
back into work”.
More information about local job
opportunities as well as advice from local employment experts will
be on hand throughout the sessions too.
Councillor David Billson,
Deputy Leader at South Staffordshire Council
commented:
“This is now our fifth job
club in the district and we’re really hoping that we can help local
people from Wombourne, and its nearby villages, get back to
work.”
District and parish
councillor, Mary Bond added:
“There are people and families
in the village who need that little bit of extra help at the moment
so hopefully the work club will do just that. We’re backing
the project because we want to see local people getting
the opportunities to get back into work”.
