New partnership will build more efficient future

South Staffordshire Council is joining forces
with Lichfield District Council and Tamworth Borough Council to
deliver its Building Control service in a move which council bosses
expect will save over £10,000 a year.
The new partnership was launched today (9th
January) under the name of Southern Staffordshire Building
Control Partnership.
The partnership will see the newly
formed team working to provide a healthy, safe,
sustainable and accessible built environment across southern
Staffordshire.
Councillor Roy Wright,
Cabinet Member for Direct Services at South Staffordshire Council
has welcomed the new partnership:
“This move offers really good
value for the tax payer and will provide an even better quality and
efficient service for our customers.”
“This is a great opportunity
to team up with the other councils and share our years of
experience and knowledge whilst keeping costs down.”

Cllr Alan
White, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for
Development, commented:
"Helping to maintain a safe
and healthy environment in which to live and work is so important,
and we are delighted to launch this new building control service.
Working in partnership, the team will be able to share its
considerable knowledge and expertise to offer a top class building
control service across a larger area.”
From supporting the construction industry,
through to helping residents to get their building alterations safe
and right, the new partnership will play a vital role in building
projects across southern Staffordshire.
The Southern Staffordshire Building Control
Partnership will be based in Lichfield. Regular surgeries in
Tamworth will continue and there will continue to be an office
covering South Staffordshire, based at the council’s offices on
Wolverhampton Road in Codsall.
