Tourism is key to economic recovery

The tourism industry in South Staffordshire is
still bringing in thousands of people and millions of pounds every
year and is key to economic recovery according to a top South
Staffordshire councillor.
New figures released show that in 2010 more
than 1.8 million trips were taken in the district – more than
100,000 more than in 2009. The figures, produced by independent
research company, ‘The Research Solution’, also show that
£85.1m was spent by visitors to the district – up by more than
£400,000 during the same period.
Councillor Brian
Edwards, Leader of South Staffordshire Council said:
“These figures are showing
that the tourism economy in South Staffordshire is thriving. We’ve
got some great attractions and they’re obviously pulling more and
more people in which is great news for the local economy."
The tourism industry now employs nearly 2,000
people in South Staffordshire, directly generating business
turnover of £103 million – up by £4m from 2009 figures.
South Staffordshire is home to the V Festival
which is held every year at Weston Park as well as other huge
tourist attractions including the vineyards at Bobbington, Kinver
Edge, Baggeridge Country Park and a wealth of historic houses.
