Who we are and what we do

The club itself has been in continuous operation since its foundation in 1948. Our ground, ‘The Ridge’, has been occupied by us for the past sixty years and, we are confident, retains the best view for many miles around. Indeed it is a wonderful spot not only for watching cricket, but also for gazing over the some forty miles to the two Clees in Worcestershire. Indeed, it is a much prized spot to those who know how to find us.

The Club itself runs a programme of cricket currently encompassing two Saturday teams, based in the Staffordshire Club Cricket Championship, along with regular friendly Sunday fixtures where we operate two teams whenever possible. In the recent past, midweek cricket has been played in a small Wolverhampton area league which has since sadly folded.

We are, however, eagerly looking forward to its reinstatement. A youth team has been in operation at various intervals, subject to enough youngsters wanting to play. The youth team is currently inactive as its previous players have grown into invaluable members of our league teams.

We are open to all comers who wish to participate, and mainly focus upon reintroducing to the sport those who have not played for some time, as well as introducing first-timers to the sport with a welcoming and friendly attitude as well as plenty of support from well established players.

We have a wide participation base, currently encompassing an age range of 13 - 63 (which is guaranteed to increase every year the current chairman continues to play!), a wide mix of ethnic groups including Irish, Bangladeshi, Afro-Caribbean and many others, as well as many female members. Unfortunately we have no female players at present, though we are hopeful this will change in the future. It may be noted that the club also encourages participation by the disabled.

Anybody interested in becoming a member should contact us on the details below. Indeed, any participation is welcomed, and there are many other important roles other than on the pitch - for instance, the current Secretary of the club has not played in years! For those interested in playing however, do feel free to come down on a Thursday evening in the summer to one of our open-air net sessions, subject to weather, where our lads are always hospitable.

Alternately match days are a great time to come down and get a feel for the place and the sport, so do come and watch. In the winter months we run an indoor nets programme often running January to March at the Wolverhampton Grammar School. Once again, do feel free to come down.
