Allotments

There are allotments in many of the villages and these are generally owned and operated by Parish Councils. Allotments are considered a healthy form of outdoor recreation, especially for those with no access to a garden. The Council places importance of the protection of such areas of open space for recreation and for their potential nature conservation value.

If sites become underused and are no longer required for allotment purposes, proposals for the change of use of the land, or other development, will have to be consistent with other policies in the Plan. In considering such proposals, the Council will not regard allotments as previously developed land.
