Open Space Audit + Playing Pitch Strategy

South Staffordshire Council has recently undertaken an audit of open spaces and playing pitches within the district.

This work has been carried out in order to satisfy the requirements of national planning policy set out in Planning Policy Guidance Note 17 (PPG17) and its companion guide 'Assessing needs and Opportunities'. This guidance aims to ensure effective planning for open space, sport and recreation through encouraging local authorities to carry out comprehensive assessments of existing local provision and future needs and to establish local standards for quantity, quality and accessibility of open space, sports and recreational facilities.

The audit work meets the requirements of PPG17 and provides the basis on which to develop a series of broad strategic options. These options will be based on the key findings of the audit and will suggest opportunities for new or relocated provision and criteria for protecting and/or enhancing existing provision.

The findings of the Open Space Audit and accompanying Playing Pitch Strategy (Appendix 10) will be used to inform a number of other important strategy documents, details of which can be found in Section 1 of the main audit document.
