2008 Bird Sightings
Bird Report 2008
March Bird Sightings
There has been a good start to the year with
some interesting sightings particularly at the feeding station.

There are still large numbers of
Goldfinches and Siskins visiting
the feeders. Up to 14 Brambling have been seen
together at any one time. Some of the males are approaching full
breeding colours so are quite striking. A new species for the
feeders was a Yellowhammer in early March.
In the woodland areas the Lesser
Spotted woodpeckers have started drumming along with the
Greater spotted woodpeckers.
Goshawks have been seen now on several occasions
patrolling over the car park area and the woodlands. Two
Pied Wagtails have recently taken up residence on
the car park outside the ranger’s office.
There are three Water Rails
(photo taken by Ron Weaver) now in the reed bed area at the
top of Island pool. For water rail they are exceptionally obliging
and have provided some excellent photographic opportunities. There
have been a number of Woodcock sightings over the
last few weeks both on and off the park.
