A licence is required, under the Caravan Sites and Control of
Development Act 1960, for land that - is used for the
provision of living accommodation comprising of caravans/mobile
homes.
It is an offence to operate a caravan site, without a valid
licence, or, in non-compliance with conditions attached to any
licence issued.
Applications for new licences can take several
months to process because of consultations that may have to take
place with emergency services and/or enforcement
authorities.
Licences last for the same period as the Planning Permission
required for this purpose, unless revoked. Applications must
be made before the land in question is used for such a
purpose.
The site will always be inspected before a licence is issued
and inspections to assess compliance with licence conditions may be
made at any time thereafter.

The use of land as a caravan site will require planning
permission. Erection of additional facilities, or, changing
the use of existing premises may require prior approval under Town
and Country Planning Acts and/or Building Regulations.
