Advertisement Control
There are separate regulations as to whether or not permission
is needed to put up advertisement hoardings or any other form of
advertisement.
The law regarding the display of
adverts is very complex and you are advised to get advice or
contact the Development Control section (see Contacts in planning)
before going ahead. Any applications are processed in the same way
as other planning applications.
The Council can grant consent for a
period of five years for those adverts which need formal permission
but there are many categories which are exempt and do not need
permission. Most illuminated adverts need consent.
Complete and return the applications
forms available below.
The Council can challenge any
advertisement put up with deemed consent, requiring it to be
removal if it is considered to have a detrimental effect on the
appearance of the area or on public safety. The owner has a right
of appeal.
A Council cannot control
the content of adverts.
If you would like to comment or
complain about the content of an advert, contact the
Advertising Standards Agency (see link)
The costs for making an application
are outlined in the document below.
