What is an Extended Payment - formerly known as, Housing Benefit Run On?

If you or your partner have been receiving one of the benefits listed below for at least a period of 26 weeks, and that benefit ends because you or your partner have started work or increased your hours, you may be eligible for an Extended Payment.

These benefits include:
  • Income Support
  • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Incapacity Benefit
  • Severe Disablement Allowance.
  • Employment & Support Allowance.

An Extended Payment is four weeks of Benefit paid at the same amount as when you were entitled to one of the above benefits.

Extended payments are made irrespective of the amount you may earn in your new job.

The Benefits Department will identify any entitlement to an Extended Payment therefore there is no need for you to apply.
