It covers an area of 156 square miles (404 square kilometres) with a resident population of over 105,000 scattered in villages throughout its area. Principal settlements include Penkridge, Brewood, Great Wyrley, Cheslyn Hay, Codsall, Bilbrook, Perton, Wombourne, and Kinver.

Sheepwalks Way

South Staffordshire has seen a rapid expansion of housing in the last 30 years as its villages have proved attractive to people prepared to travel to the nearby urban areas.

Industrial development has also seen an increase, much of it provided direct by the Council or facilitated in joint developments with the private sector. Projects carried out at Four Ashes, South Staffordshire Business Park, Cheslyn Hay, Balliol Business Park, Bilbrook, and Hilton Cross, Featherstone, have brought into use derelict or underused land and provided major investment and employment opportunities.

The Council has also been proactive in building industrial units at locations throughout South Staffordshire aimed at providing good quality accommodation for new and expanding small businesses.

Industrial Unit
South Staffordshire offers the best of both worlds: a pleasant place to live in and an ideal place to work.

Much of South Staffordshire lies within the West Midlands Green Belt; the remainder to the north of the Green Belt is defined as "Open Countryside". The area has a rich legacy of historic landscapes and buildings, with many cultural, recreational and leisure opportunities on offer. Enjoy the classical lines and parkland of Weston Park, a leisurely walk around Baggeridge Country Park, or a hard workout at one of the Council's Leisure Centres.
