New Political Makeup for May 2007

 

There was a gain of seven seats for Conservative with Labour losing six and others losing one.  The Liberal Democrats retained there one seat:

Election Information

 
Full district and parish elections were held on Thursday 3 May 2007. 
 
All 25 Wards for the 49 Council seats will be contested. Wards either have one, two or three members representing them depending on the number of registered voters.
 
The 2003 election resulted in the Council having:
  • 35 Conservative Councillors
  • Eight Labour *
  • One Liberal-Democrat
  • Four Independent
  • One Freedom Party
 
* This number was reduced to six Members due to the sad deaths of a Councillor in December 2006 and March 2007.  Both seats were filled on 3 May 2007.  See the vacancy notices below.
 
There were six uncontested Wards.

All 27 Parishes were up for election.  Some Parishes are broken up into several wards due to their size.

The Electoral Commission has provided an easy step by step guide for candidates and election agents which is available free of charge.  A copy can be downloaded from the their website under Elections 2007.  This will be issued to all District Council candidates with the nomination pack. 

 

There were sixteen contested District Wards where elections took place on 3rd May.

 

The Wards where the candidates were uncontested, and were declared elected unopposed were:

 

  • Essington
  • Himley and Swindon
  • Pattingham and Patshull
  • Penkridge NE and Acton Trussell
  • Penkridge West
  • Perton Dippons
  • Trysull and Seisdon
  • Wheaton Aston, Bishopswood and Lapley
  • Wombourne North and Lower Penn

 

Details of the candidates elected uncontested can be viewed by clicking on uncontested District Wards link below. There were a total of fourteen candidates (thirteen Conservative and one Independent).

 

There were originally eighteen parish areas contested, though this reduced to sixteen after the withdrawals deadline on 11th April:

 

  • Bilbrook - Lane Green, West and East Wards
  • Blymhill & Weston U Lizard - Weston U Lizard Ward
  • Codsall North and South
  • Essington Central
  • Featherstone- Featherstone Ward
  • Hilton**
  • Kinver - Dunsley, Potters Cross and Stourton Wards
  • Lower Penn*
  • Pattingham and Patshull - Pattingham Ward
  • Perton East and Lakeside
  • Trysull and Seisdon - Seisdon Ward*
  • Wombourne South West Ward

 

*Candidates from Lower Penn Parish and from the Parish of Trysull and Seisdon (Seisdon Ward) withdrew on 11th April so elections in these 2 areas did NOT take place.

 

**Hilton Parish will no longer have an election on 3rd May due to the sad death of candidate Stuart Michael.  Mr Michael was also a candidate on the uncontested Featherstone Parish (Brinsford Ward) though this was not a contested election.

FEATHERSTONE AND SHARESHILL DISTRICT WARD AND HILTON PARISH COUNCIL - 21st JUNE 2007

 

This Ward and Parish Council Election were postponed from 3rd May. The election timetable and Notices of Election for the District Ward and Hilton Parish can be viewed as links below. 

 

Councillors for Hilton Parish Council were declared elected uncontested as only seven candidate nominations were received for the seven seats. To view who was elected click on the uncontested notice below.
