The Parliamentary General Election took place on
Thursday 6th May 2010. The previous General
Election took place in 2005. You can find those results
here.
The north of our district, including the villages of:
- Penkridge
- Wheaton Aston
- Bishopswood
- Acton Trussell
- Dunston
- Coppenhall
come under the Parliamentary Constituency of Stafford.
Stafford Borough Council are
responsible for this election.

Latest News
Referendum on Alternative Vote system
The Government has announced that the above referendum will take
place on Thursday 5th May 2011, the same date set for the local
elections. Within South Staffordshire all the District Wards
and Parishes will be up for re-election on the same day. Full
details will appear in the Elections in 2011 page in due
course.
District Council vacancy filled in Huntington
and Hatherton Ward
The vacancy in the above Ward was held on Thursday 1st
July 2010.

New Constituency for Huntington Voters
Due to the Parliamentary Boundary Review after the 2005 General
Election, voters from the village of Huntington are now part of the
South Staffordshire Constituency rather than Cannock
Chase. Previously, the District Ward of Huntington and
Hatherton was split across the two constituencies, but now the
whole Ward is within the South Staffordshire
Constituency.

Parish Elections
By-Elections occured throughout the year due to various reasons
e.g. death of a councillor; disqualification; resignation.
The Parish Clerk has to advertise the vacancy and if the
Returning Officer receives a request from 10 local government
electors from the Parish (Ward) to fill the vacancy by an election
the Parish Clerk is free to fill the vacancy by co-option
if he has a suitably qualified person the Parish Council is
happy to cooperate.
