Grass Cutting

The Council manages many grass areas throughout the district. These are mainly parks and open spaces, although in some areas the Parish Councils cut the grass. The Council cuts the highway verges within the village boundaries on behalf of Staffordshire County Council.

Outside the villages the verges are cut by Staffordshire County Council's highway maintenance contractor.

We currently work in partnership with South Staffordshire Housing Association and also manage and maintain the grass areas around it's own housing developments.

Where the Council is responsible for grass cutting we carry out the following approach.

Methods and quality control

Grass cutting machinery in use will be a combination of rotary and cylinder mowers supported by strimmers, blowers and sweepers. A written specification in the main contract document identifies the required standard, of which all of our operatives are aware.

Monitoring

Work is monitored by our Grounds Maintenance and Bereavement Services team. Our term contractor is the Landscape Group.

If you have a complaint or cause for concern, ask yourself first is this justifiable? If you feel it is speak to us as soon as possible. We cannot investigate complaints weeks after the event because the evidence will not be there! If the contractor is not acting in accordance with the specification we will see that they do so as far as is reasonably practicable.
