South Staffordshire Council’s Bereavement
Services are responsible for the management of Sytch Lane Cemetery
in Wombourne and the Council’s new cemetery at Strawberry Lane,
Great Wyrley (due to open Spring 2013).
We aim to provide a quality, caring service
and maintain attractive cemeteries for people of all different
religions and cultural backgrounds.
Bereavement Services is based at the Council
Offices in Codsall and we have professional staff sympathetic to
the needs of the bereaved. We are responsible for day to day
contact with Funeral Directors and members of the public.
In most cases, funerals are organised by
Funeral Directors, however families may make arrangements
themselves and deal directly with us.
Please also note that we will charge premium
fees to families of non-residents of South Staffordshire who wish
for their relatives to be interred at our cemetery sites. For
further information regarding the exact terms of this scheme,
please contact Bereavement Services or see our 'Fees and
Charges' and full 'Rules and Regulations' documents below.
South Staffordshire Council is a corporate
member of the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management
(ICCM), and the staff within Bereavement Services are Associate
Members of the Institute. We are also working towards the
ICCM Charter for the Bereaved. This Charter establishes a
high expected standard of service provision, common throughout
charter members and helps to give clear information to people about
all important aspects of arranging a funeral. It can be seen
as a commitment by the Council to continuously improving the level
of standards within Bereavement Services. Further information
on the Charter for the Bereaved can be found on the ICCM’s website
by following the link below.
The burial records and registers for both of
our cemeteries are held by Bereavement Services at the Council
Offices in Codsall. If you wish to view these records then
please contact us in advance in order to make an appointment.
Bereavement Services are open to the public from 9:00am to 4:00pm
from Monday to Friday, but closed during weekends and public
holidays.
