South Staffordshire Council’s Villages CCTV scheme became operational in April 2002 with an initial 22 cameras. A further 10 cameras have since been added to the system including 2 at Penkridge train station monitored on behalf of Network Rail.

A full schedule of the camera locations is available.

The scheme accords with Aim 2 of the Council’s Corporate Strategy:

“To be a healthy and safe District in which to live, work, and visit”

by contributing to one of its key objectives, namely

“to reduce crime and disorder and make South Staffordshire safer”.

The CCTV system and its associated equipment are wholly owned, operated and maintained by the Council. The scheme comes under the umbrella of the local Crime Reduction Partnership and it has the authority of the Chief Executive of South Staffordshire Council and the Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police. It operates in accordance with the Policy, Procedures & Strategy that have been agreed by the Staffordshire CCTV Users Group (this is a partnership between Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire Local Authorities). Extracts from the document have been used in this Overview.

Management of the scheme is delegated to the person below, to whom all relevant enquiries should be addressed in the first instance.
