The Environmental Protection Act 1990
makes the Council responsible for keeping public lands clear
of litter and refuse, as far as is practicably possible.
We ensure that the pavements, alleyways and roads are
litter picked and swept according to the schedules
below.
The cleansing frequency is determined by the amount of people
using the areas. The more people using the area the greater the
chances that litter will be deposited.
If any area that the Council has responsibility for falls into a
poor litter state, the Council will, after inspection, clear it up
and assess the need for more regular cleansing.
