Street Nameplates

The Council has statutory powers to carry out the naming of streets. This includes the provision, maintenance, repair and replacement of street nameplates, together with village name signs that are found at the entrance to the villages in South Staffordshire. It does not however include road traffic signs or directional signs, as these are the responsibility of Staffordshire County Council who are the Highway Authority for the area.

Street nameplates play a vital role in enabling people to find their way in unfamiliar surroundings, e.g. visitors to the area, postal deliveries, and the emergency services responding to a call. It is therefore vital that they are suitably located and maintained. Local residents can help to achieve this by reporting defects or deficiencies to the Council so that suitable action can be arranged.
