Health & Safety at
Work
South Staffordshire Councils
Environmental Health and Licensing Team, are responsible
for the
enforcement of health and safety
standards at over 1500 commercial premises throughout South
Staffordshire. These include premises used for warehousing, retail,
offices, sporting and leisure
activities, hotels, catering,
residential care accommodation and other consumer
services.
It is a legal duty of all
employers to ensure that the health, safety and welfare
of employees, and
also for others who may be affected
by their operations (e.g. customers, clients etc) is
protected
as far as possible. These
responsibilities include providing a safe place of work and
ensuring that
working practices are safe;
including having equipment and tools that are safe to use and
well
maintained; providing information
regarding materials used on the premises and ensuring
that
employees are trained in the
safe use of such materials and equipment.
Unannounced inspections of
businesses are normally undertaken throughout the year and
in
accordance with a risk based
programme. Our officers also investigate accidents and
complaints
received from employees or members
of the public which may require a visit to the premises.
If you are concerned about health
and safety issues at your workplace, or at premises you have
visited, please contact the
Food and Safety Team.
