So that the most appropriate housing sites to deliver the strategy for the District are identified, the Council has to prepare a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment or SHLAA. The SHLAA is essentially a study of potential housing sites in the District. It is important to understand that the SHLAA does not allocate land but is an important piece of evidence that will help the Council in deciding the best sites to meet our housing need in the most sustainable way.

The 2012 SHLAA forms part of the evidence base for the Local Plan and will inform the preparation of our locality based Site Allocations DPD. It replaces the 2011 SHLAA and contains the most up to date information about housing sites available at the current time.

The SHLAA is updated annually to take account of new sites suggested to us and other changes such as agent or ownership details.

The SHLAA also contains information about the Council's housing land supply.

The 2012 SHLAA including a full list of sites and mapping is available to view below. It is important that the maps are read in conjunction with the information in Appendix 6 as the maps show all sites suggested to us, but not all of those sites have been assessed as suitable for development.
