Local Development Framework (LDF)

A collection of local planning documents containing a range of policies, collectively called the Local Development Framework (LDF), will replace old style Local Plans and deliver the local planning strategy for the District.  The local planning strategy goes beyond traditional land use planning by integrating policies for the development and use of land with other policies and programmes that have an influence on the nature of places and how they function. 

The LDF will be made up of a suite of individual documents, which collectively will guide the development of the District. 

These documents, and the policies they contain, will gradually replace the Local Plan and include:

Core Strategy

Other Local Planning Documents

The Council reviewed the number of local planning documents it proposes to produce in the light of Government guidance and decided not to produce a separate Development Control Policies Document. Detailed development policies will be now included in the Core Strategy. Please see the Core Strategy page for previous consultation on these policies.

The Council also originally proposed to produce a separate local planning document for Wolverhampton Airport. However, the Council considered that policies for the Airport should now be included in the Core Strategy as it means that the policies could be in place earlier than if we continued to produce a separate document. Please see the Core Strategy page for previous consultations on Airport matters.

Supplementary Planning Documents

The Council will be preparing Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) to support the Local Development Framework.
