A census is a count of all people and households and provides a detailed local and national picture of society to help target funds and plan local services.
Census Day
Every ten years the Office for National Statistics (ONS) carries out a census to find out more about the people who live in England and Wales, and about the make-up of local neighbourhoods. Census day was Sunday 27 March 2011, ONS sent out over 25 million questionnaires to households to complete.
