Message from the Leader
Councilllor Brian Edwards MBE, Leader of South Staffordshire Council.
“It's disappointing that the country has to go into lockdown again but like a lot of the country we have seen a rapid rise in the number of coronavirus cases over the last few weeks in South Staffordshire.
“This is a challenging time, but this lockdown is necessary to help save lives and stop the spread of coronavirus. Everyone has a part to play and we need to follow the new lockdown rules and continue to wear face coverings where required, wash our hands regularly, practise safe social distancing, get tested if we have symptoms and self-isolate when needed.
“These restrictions are going to be difficult. Once again, people are facing lockdown restrictions and being asked to stay at home and some of our businesses are having to close. As a Council, we remain committed to protecting the health of our district and we will continue to deliver important public services and support residents, businesses and communities.
“Bin collections will continue to take place and our Street Scene team will carry on with their street cleansing and grounds maintenance work and looking after the green spaces in the district. Baggeridge Country Park and the Council's two cemeteries - Sytch Lane Cemetery in Wombourne and Strawberry Lane Cemetery in Great Wyrley - will remain open but unfortunately, our four Leisure Centres will have to close.
“My thanks go out to everyone in our local community for what you are doing to keep South Staffordshire safe and for those in our NHS and working in social care. By working together and taking care of each other we will get through this."
