Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to complete a recruitment monitoring form?
A recruitment monitoring form is required to accompany each application. Application forms submitted without a recruitment monitoring form will not be accepted.
Can I send my CV rather than use the application form?
The Council would prefer that you complete an application form. This helps with shortlisting candidates as the information is displayed in the same format.
Can I get a paper application form?
An electronic application form is provided for your convenience, however you can download an application form or request an application pack to be sent to you via post or email. Please call 01902696704 to request this.
Do I need to declare any relatives that already work within the organisation?
Yes, if you have a relative working for the council you must declare this on your application form.
What time does the position close?
Positions normally close at 17:00pm unless otherwise stated in the job advert.
How do I address the essential criteria in the person specification?
The essential criteria is used to shortlist candidates, so you should therefore ensure that you cover all of the requirements. Describe/Demonstrate how you meet the criteria by using your experience.
Who can I put down as a reference?
Both references should relate to, your present employer, most recent employer, previous employer or a member of school/college/university staff. References from relatives will not be accepted.
What qualifications do I need?
If there are qualification requirements, these will be identified in the Job Description and Person Specification. You will need to provide certificates to confirm this.
When will I know the outcome of my application?
Successful applicants will be contacted within 7 working days of the closing date, usually by email correspondence if an email address has been provided on the application form.
Will I be contacted if I am not successful for interview?
We do not usually contact candidates who are unsuccessful at shortlisting stage. Applicants who have not been contacted within 7 days of the closing date should assume that they have not been successful on this occasion. They can however gain feedback on their application form upon request.
How will I be contacted if my application is successful?
If your application is successful, you will be contacted via E-mail where possible.
How will I know the interview date?
The interview date will be stated on the job advert and if successful will be confirmed on a letter.
Is it possible for me to change my interview date/time?
It is unusual that we are able to accommodate these requests.
Do I need to confirm my attendance prior to my interview?
Yes, we would expect you to confirm if you are able to attend the interview or not.
Will I need to undertake a test as part of my interview process?
Some interviews will contain a test as part of the recruitment process, the test will be relevant to the duties undertaken in the role.
Why do I need to provide my right to work documents?
It is a legal requirement that pre-employment checks are completed for all employees to ensure that they can be lawfully employed.
A list of suitable documents to verify your eligibility to work in the UK are issued with your invitation to interview.
How will I be contacted after the interview?
If you are successful at the interview stage we will contact you via telephone. If you are unsuccessful at the interview stage you will be contacted via E-mail.
What happens if I am conditionally offered a position?
You will be conditionally offered a position subject to the receipt of satisfactory clearances. These include confirmation of qualifications, right to work documents, two satisfactory references, a medical clearance and - if applicable to the position - a DBS check, driving licence/car insurance/MOT confirmation.
Will I be subject to a DBS check?
Some posts are identified as one requiring checks for possible criminal background. A disclosure check will be made through the Disclosure and Barring Service and this, or any other offer of appointment is subject to a satisfactory clearance.
Will I be given feedback from my application/interview?
Yes, you can request feedback from your application and/or interview by emailing HumanResources@sstaffs.gov.uk
