Local Discretionary Discount
The government has given local authorities a set amount of money to help local businesses experiencing increases in their business rates bills following the 2017 revaluation.
This money will be phased over the five year revaluation period from 2017-18 to 2021-22, with the amount of money reducing each year.
We have put together a scheme to help those in our area with their business rates bills; taking into account the money we have been given. Those ratepayers that receive help under this scheme could have the increase in their business rates bills reduced by up to 60%.
We have previously wrote to all businesses who we believe are eligible inviting them to apply for the relief and the Council can no longer consider any new applications.
To be eligible for the scheme, the business must meet the following criteria:
-You were the ratepayer on 31st March 2017
-You were the ratepayer on 1 April 2017
-The property has been continuously occupied since 1 April 2017
-Your 2017/18 rate bill, after other rate reliefs, has increased by more than £100.00 compared to your 2016/17 rate bill
-Your 2017/18 rate bill has only increased due to the Revaluation 2017
-The property is not used as a betting shop, payday loan shop or pawn brokers
-The ratepayer is not a public funded organisation
-An award of relief will not result in you having received State Aid in excess of €200,000 in a three year period
- Minimum relief awarded is £50.00
If you have already received the discretionary relief for 2018/19, the relief will continue in 2019/20 in accordance with our scheme and where the above criteria continues to be met. We will be writing to all eligible ratepayers to confirm the amount of discretionary relief awarded in 2019/20.
All eligible ratepayers will be notified by the 30th April 2019, if you have not heard from us then please contact on the details below.
