Council nominated for three national recycling awards
Released on 9 April 2018
A social media campaign featuring festive photographs of local bin men and useful recycling advice has helped South Staffordshire Council receive three award nominations at this year's MRW (Materials Recycling World) National Recycling Awards.
This is the first time the Council's work has been shortlisted for these national awards, which recognise and celebrate best practice and innovation in recycling and waste management. The Council has been nominated in the 'Campaign of the Year' and the 'Local Authority Innovation' categories for its Christmas communications campaign, which included 'Festive Bin Men of Christmas' posts on social media.
The Waste Management team at the Council has also been short-listed for the prestigious 'Team of the Year' award, which recognises teams who have shown a collective commitment to go above and beyond what is expected in order to deliver top results.
The results will be announced on Thursday 28 June 2018 at a ceremony in London.
Councillor Mary Bond, Cabinet Member for Community Services at South Staffordshire Council, said, “It's brilliant to be shortlisted for three awards and I'm very proud of our Waste and Recycling team. We are always looking for creative and innovative ways to encourage our residents to reduce waste and reuse or recycle more and we consistently achieve extremely high satisfaction rates for our kerbside waste and recycling service from our residents, achieving a 91% satisfaction rate in 2016-17."
