Nation's favourite parks compete for People's Choice Award
Released on 14 September 2018
Vote now for Baggeridge Country Park and the Wom Brook Walk in the UK's People's Choice Awards 2018. This award asks the nation to have its say and decide which parks and green spaces are the UK's favourites. Only parks that have won the prestigious Green Flag award qualify for the People's Choice nomination.
For 20 years, Baggeridge Country Park in Gospel End, South Staffordshire has received a Green Flag Award. With an estimated 150,000 visitors enjoying the 152 acres of parkland every year, the award demonstrates that this well-loved green space is being managed and maintained to the highest national standard of excellence. With over 7,000 likes, its Facebook page has a loyal following and it would be a fitting accolade for its twentieth year of winning a Green Flag Award if this well-loved park received enough votes to make the top 10 People's Choice Winners.
Another success story in the district is the Wom Brook Walk. This popular walk and designated local nature reserve stretches for about one and a half miles and visitors can get up close to nature and see wildlife including woodpeckers, kingfishers and dippers and maybe even a water vole.
Both Baggeridge Country Park and the Wom Brook Walk are maintained by South Staffordshire Council. The Green Flag Award, now into its third decade, is the mark of a quality park or green space and a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
To vote, go to www.greenflag.org.uk and find your park on the winners map, then click the voting button.
Voting closes on Sunday 30 September 2018. Please note that you can only vote once and multiple votes will not be counted.
Councillor Mary Bond, Cabinet Member for Community Services at South Staffordshire Council, said, “The People's Choice Award is a chance to show how much your favourite park or green space means to you. We are immensely proud of Baggeridge Country Park and the Wom Brook Walk and I know they are loved by many of our residents and visitors to the district.
“Parks and green spaces are important for the health and wellbeing of society and they give people the opportunity to be more active in wonderful surroundings. Whether your interest is in conservation, exercise, a place for the children to explore, or just a leisurely stroll through tranquil surroundings, South Staffordshire offers something for everyone."
