Council to host skills and jobs fair

Jobs, training and volunteering opportunities in South Staffordshire will be on offer at a skills and jobs fair at the Council Offices in Codsall on Friday 20 September 2019. The event takes place between 10am and 1pm and is free to attend and open to all ages.
Organised by South Staffordshire Council, the event will bring together job seekers, employers and support/training services. Over 40 local businesses are expected to attend and, in addition to an array of jobs on offer, the fair will provide practical help, advice and workshops for those looking to develop their skills or to re-train.
Local employers will be recruiting for positions at a range of levels from apprenticeships to full-time professional roles and businesses and organisations attending the event include the support service, construction and equipment company Interserve, Healthwatch Wolverhampton and Healthwatch Staffordshire, Avon, Bright and Beautiful housekeeping and cleaning services, the staffing and healthcare company Secure Healthcare Solutions, Progress Care Solutions UK, Park Foster Care and Penkridge Eyecare.
A number of apprenticeship specialists and colleges and recruitment agencies will be on hand as well to offer advice and guidance on a range of local training and re-skilling opportunities including Walsall College, City of Wolverhampton College, Stafford College, Performance Through People, Jonothan Bosworth recruitment specialists, the Pathway Group apprenticeship provider, Care Market Development Team (CMDT) and Juniper Training. Jobcentre Plus and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will also be attending the event.
Workshops will be running throughout the day and topics include writing CVs and covering letters, how to go about searching for a job online and uploading your CV on job websites as well as cyber security. There will also be presentations about self-employment, interview techniques and Building Better Opportunities, a local award-winning programme which uses a multi-partner approach and helps people who are unemployed or economically inactive overcome complex and multiple needs and builds their self-confidence and resilience to help them progress towards or into employment.
Speaking ahead of the event, Councillor Brian Edwards MBE, Leader of South Staffordshire Council said, “This skills and jobs fair has something for everyone and I would encourage anyone looking for a job, apprenticeship or career change to come along. The event will be bringing employers, support organisations and jobseekers together under one roof, highlighting local employment opportunities and the support available to anyone looking for employment, volunteering and work experience."
