Tributes have been paid to District and Parish Councillor Mary Bond who passed away in April.  

Mary was first elected to the District Council in May 2007 and represented Wombourne South West Ward. She was Cabinet Member for Community Services, responsible for leisure services, waste and recycling and Street Scene (2013-19), and Chairman of the Council (2012-13). She also served on many committees including the Planning Committee, Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Community and Environmental Services Scrutiny Panel, Health Scrutiny Panel, Regulatory Committee and the Investigatory & Disciplinary Committee.

Outside of the District Council, she was involved with Wombourne Parish Council, the South Staffs Work Clubs, Wombourne Community Association, Green Park School Voluntary Committee, the Wombourne Branch of South Staffs Conservative Association, the Halfpenny Green Airport Consultative Committee, the South Staffordshire Local Strategic Partnership - Health and Wellbeing Group, Chair of the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Joint Waste Management Board, the Environmental and Public Health Protection Services Scrutiny Panel, the Campaign to Protect Rural England, Environmental Protection UK and Wombourne Youth Centre Management Committee.  

Councillor Brian Edwards MBE, Leader of South Staffordshire Council, said, “We are all deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and colleague Mary. Mary was a very committed Councillor and served the residents of Wombourne with great energy and dedication. She was well known and liked in the community and she will be very much missed in Wombourne, where she had been at the heart of the community for many years. Our thoughts are now with her husband Barry and her family and friends at this sad time."
