Find out about memorial options at our cemeteries
A memorial mason can help you to decide on a suitable memorial to commemorate your loved one at our cemeteries. We allow a variety of memorials and are flexible regarding the shape, colour and design of a memorial, encouraging creativity in the choice of headstone or plaque for a grave.
Before a memorial is installed the grave owner must contact their chosen memorial mason who will submit an application form to the Council so that a permit to erect the memorial can then be issued.
The grave owner is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of any memorial on a grave. Thankfully, instances of vandalism or theft in our cemeteries are very rare. However, we strongly recommend that owners consider appropriate insurance cover as the Council's own insurance does not cover these risks. Your chosen memorial mason should be able to offer you further advice on this.
It is important that all memorials are installed safely and in accordance with current National Association of Memorial Masons (NAMM) standards. Only memorial masons, who are registered with the British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons (BRAMM) and/or the National Association of Memorial Masons (NAMM) will be permitted to carry out work in the cemeteries.

- Adopt-a-Tree Scheme.
- Memorial Plaque Lease – Granite Bird Bath (Sytch Lane Cemetery only).
- Memorial Plaque Lease - Bench.
These options are available on a lease basis for either three, five or ten years and the costs are as follows:
