Single Person Discount
When you live alone, or are the only person over 18 who has their sole or main residence at your address, you are entitled to a 25% Single Person Discount.
To either claim or disclaim this discount, you can do so by completing our online form.
If the form is unavailable for any reason, you can also claim the discount by emailing email@example.com confirming the following details:
- Customer Name
- Property Address
- Council Tax reference number
- Date of when discount should start/end
- Details of who has left/joined household and their forwarding or previous address
If you are already claiming a single person discount and another adult moves in with you, or someone in your household reaches the age of 18, you will no longer be entitled to a single person's discount.
If this happens, you need to let us know and you can do this by using our online form.
In order to complete the form you will require your surname, postcode and Council tax account reference. Once in receipt of the information we will endeavour to process your application within 21 days.
Single Person Discount reviews
To make sure you're paying the right level of council tax we regularly review all of the homes which are claiming a single person discount.
Reviewing these discounts helps us identify any households claiming where they shouldn't, targeting those who are committing fraud, and making sure your council tax is going straight to providing services for your families and communities.
If you think you might be claiming where you shouldn't, tell us now and we can help you with a repayment plan for any back-dated amounts that you might owe.
South Staffordshire Council also participates in the National Fraud Initiative (NFI) which is data matching exercise run by the Cabinet Office to identify fraudulent and erroneous payments from the public purse.
If you require further assistance, please contact the Council Tax Department by email: firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephone: 01902 696664.
