Case Study - Our First Install
At home it's me and my sons, one of whom is disabled. We have struggled over the past few years; my son wasn't able to live comfortably in the house as he doesn't have his own space, and it has been constantly freezing cold because the house didn't have any central heating. This year, our life has been transformed by the support we have received from the local council, the charity Beat The Cold and the Staffordshire Warmer Homes Scheme. After speaking to my local council, my son got awarded a Disability Grant which enabled us to convert our garage into a safe place quiet space for him to play and sleep.
The charity Beat The Cold, have helped us to access funding through the Staffordshire Warmer Homes scheme to install central heating and radiators throughout our whole house. This has helped so much as before, we were heating our house using a gas fire and portable electric heating. The house was always freezing, and it was not good for my sons or my own health and wellbeing. It was also incredibly expensive; the new central heating system is going to save me almost £1,500 in electricity bills this year. The support we have received has meant the world to us. My son now has his own space which has really helped and we have a lovely warm home, where we can be happy.

Rented homes must meet basic energy efficiency ratings
Do you live in a rented home? Did you struggle with high heating bills and warmth over the winter? Did you know that there are new laws to ensure that landlords ensure that homes meet basic energy efficiency requirements? Under new legislation, landlords cannot grant new leases to property with an Energy Performance rating of below an ‘E', and from April 2020 all rented properties must achieve the higher standard. Warmer Homes South Staffs can advise landlords or tenants about the measures and grants available: that's good news for tenants and landlords.
Warmer weather is the best time to give your heating system an overhaul!
If your heating struggled to cope with persistent cold, and left you with a big bill to boot, don't leave it until the Autumn to get it sorted. Many contractors will offer a reduced priced service over the summer months, and you could get a grant towards the cost of a heating replacement or upgrade. With Warmer Homes South Staffs ‘Help to Heat' scheme, if you are on a low income with limited savings, you could get a grant – even if you are not in receipt of benefits.
