Our service teams respond to a wide range of incidents every day – but locating them can be difficult, particularly when they occur in unfamiliar or difficult-to-describe areas. Street addressing isn’t always accurate, postcodes often cover large areas, and rural locations such as fields, farms and woodland often do not have an address at all. Lengthy descriptions are time-consuming, and often difficult to follow, and long strings of GPS coordinates aren’t human friendly – which can all slow down operations.
What3words solves these issues and provides a simple way to communicate precise locations. It has divided the world into a grid of 3m x 3m squares and given each square a unique combination of three words: a what3words address. Now every parking space, litter bin and precise spot in an unmarked field has its own what3words address. For example [///basket.voice.jungle] marks the exact entrance to the Community Hub in Codsall.
Recording the what3words address on each report made via My Login and using three words to get directions to exactly where they need to be means teams can find the problem quickly. What3words is available in over 60 languages to date, and is free to use via the app for iOS and Android or the online map at what3words.com
