Purpose and methods of processing

Planning register

To fulfil our legal requirements to keep a record of planning applications and applications for tree work.

Comments on planning applications

To help Council officers and Planning Committee members determine whether a proposal development should be approved. For the same purpose, we will forward comments to the Planning Inspectorate in the event of an appeal.

Pre-application enquiries

To help Council officers provide guidance on planning matters.

Hedgerow Removal Notices

To enable Council officers to determine whether a hedgerow should be removed.

High hedge complaints

To enable Council officers to investigate and determine the complaint. For the same purpose, we will forward your comments to the Planning Inspectorate in the event of an appeal.

General correspondence and enquiries

To enable Council officers to respond appropriately.

Planning Inspectorate

To provide and exchange information, including personal data, between South Staffordshire Council and the Inspectorate, in respect of planning appeals, examinations and other casework types.

Legal Basis

We will process your personal data because:

  1. it is necessary for us to do so to perform a task carried out in the public interest; or
  2. to exercise an official authority vested in us.


Officers of the Development Management team and other officers within the Council may receive/process your personal data when appropriate. We may share information with other services in the Council where necessary.


We will usually retain your information indefinitely.

Your rights (in brief)

If we process your personal data then, depending on your circumstances, you may have the right to:

  • access it;
  • have it corrected;
  • restrict our processing of it; or
  • have it erased.
