Local Plan Review

Revised Timetable for Local Plan Review

Following discussions with our Elected Members, we now have a new timetable for our Local Plan review. This means that consultation on the next stage of the review, Preferred Options, has been moved to Summer 2021.

Consultation is a very important part of the Local Plan review process, and we will use this extra time to review new and updated evidence, and to fully consider the representations made. The Preferred Options stage will include new sites for development and new and revised planning policies. You can see the full timetable in our Local Development Scheme.

It is very important that we continue to work on the review, so that at the right time, we will be able to provide a strong planning framework for the future of South Staffordshire which will provide much needed homes and jobs, and which will help revitalise the economy.

If you have made comments to us previously, you do not need to contact us as we will be in touch automatically to let you know when the next consultation is planned. If not, and you would like to be added to our database, please email localplanreview@sstaffs.gov.uk

Spatial Housing Strategy & Infrastructure Delivery - Consultation now closed.

We have consulted on the second stage of our Local Plan which was focused on broad locations for housing growth and the infrastructure required to deliver the growth. The consultation was not site specific, but looked at seven different options to deliver housing to meet South Staffordshire's own housing needs and a contribution towards unmet housing need in the wider region.

It did not cover employment growth or the needs of the Gypsy and Traveller community. These issues will be consulted on at Preferred Options, scheduled for summer 2020.

We also consulted on an update to our Affordable Housing and Housing Mix Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). We have a strong track record of delivering affordable homes and the SPD set out the Council's expectations in relation to the provision of housing in the district. This provides clarity for landowners, developers, registered providers and residents and will ensure a consistent approach is taken between sites across the district.

Following the consultation, the Local Plans Team is now recording all the responses and they will be taken into account as the review progresses.
