5 Year Housing Land Supply - April 2024
5 Year Housing Land Supply (5YHLS), Brownfield Land Register, Strategic Housing & Economic Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA) and housing supply data.
The council is required to maintain and publish a register of previously developed land (commonly known as “brownfield land”) which is suitable for residential development.
The SHELAA is an evidence base document which contains sites that have been suggested to us for housing or employment development, including self-build or custom build plots.
Site suggestions can be submitted for any piece of land in the district, large or small, and which could include land within the Green Belt or Open Countryside. We carry out regular Calls for Sites to update the information in the SHELAA, but sites can be submitted at any time. However, as the SHELAA is only updated annually, the information may not be published until the review of the SHELAA is complete. Ad hoc site suggestions will be considered dependent on the stage of the Local Plan review process.
The SHELAA contains details of all sites suggested to us and they are recorded, and a basic assessment is carried out. However, including a site within the SHELAA does not mean that the Council thinks it is suitable for development. The SHELAA gives us a wide selection of sites to consider, but site allocation will only come through a review of our Local Plan. Our SHELAA FAQs will explain more.
If you wish to put a site forward for inclusion in the SHELAA, then please complete a form and send it to the Local Plans Team at localplans@sstaffs.gov.uk
