Planning Guidance and Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs)

To provide more detailed guidance on policies or proposals in the Local Plan we have prepared Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs).

SPDs do not contain new policy but support the policies in the Local Plan by setting out in more detail how the policy will be applied.

Affordable Housing and Housing Mix SPD

Sets out guidance on the type and tenure of housing on new development sites.  It was adopted at full council on 1 April 2014:

Design Guide SPD

Our district Design Guide gives clear guidelines to help promote good design in new development and reflects the diversity of the villages in South Staffordshire and the wider, more rural areas. It also contains a section on shop front design within our Conservation Areas.  It was adopted on 26 June, 2018.

Sustainable Development SPD

The Sustainable Development SPD contains many themes including sustainable transport, energy efficiency, biodiversity, sustainable drainage systems and waste management and includes a Householder Guide to Renewable Energy.  It was adopted on 26 June 2018.

Green Belt and Open Countryside SPD

The Green Belt and Open Countryside SPD provides additional information on the application and interpretation of Core Strategy policies GB1 and OC1. It was adopted 1st April 2014.

Cannock Chase Special Area of Conservation (SAC)

South Staffordshire Council has a duty to ensure that planning application decisions comply with the Habitats Regulations. Local Plan policy EQ2 safeguards the Cannock Chase Special Area of Conservation (SAC), which has been designated for its unique heathland habitat.
