South Staffordshire Local Plan

South Staffordshire Local Plan

The Council has a statutory duty to prepare a development plan, known as a Local Plan, which provides the planning framework for all new development in South Staffordshire. Our Local Plan contains a range of policies and land allocations, and is made up of two documents which are the Core Strategy and our Site Allocations document, or SAD. These two plans replace the 1996 Local Plan and together deliver the local planning strategy for South Staffordshire.

The Core Strategy was adopted in 2012 and the SAD in September 2018. You can see the documents here:

We will also prepare Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs), which support the policies in the Local Plan by setting out more details on how the policy requirements will apply.

You can see the Evidence Base which contains all the studies and background information which have contributed to the development of the Local Plan. This covers a wide range of documents including for example detailed housing and employment studies, environmental information, Green Belt and Landscape Studies.

We carry out consultations on many of our local planning documents and we welcome your views.

The development plan must also be consistent with National Planning Policy which is set out in the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and further details can be found on the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government website.

The Government has also published detailed Planning Practice Guidance (PPG) which should be read alongside the NPPF.

Data Protection

The Strategic Planning Team manages and maintains a register of persons who have an interest in local planning documents (Local Plan Database); those who wish to register land for future development on our Self and Custom Build Register and/or Strategic Housing and Employment Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA); and regarding Empty Properties. In order to do this in an effective way we will need to collect and use personal information about you. For more information about how we process this data see Strategic Planning Team - Data Protection.
