Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs)

To help give more detailed guidance on policies or proposals in the Local Plan we can prepare Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) . SPDs do not contain new policy, but support the policies in the Local Plan by setting out in more detail how the policy will be applied.

Affordable Housing and Housing Mix SPD - Consultation CLOSED

We recently consulted on an update to our Affordable Housing & Housing Mix SPD. We have a strong track record of delivering affordable homes and the SPD sets out the Council's expectations in relation to the provision of housing in the district. This provides clarity for landowners, developers, registered providers and residents and will ensure a consistent approach is taken between sites across the district.

The consultation ran for 8 weeks from Thursday 17 October until 5pm Thursday 12 December 2019. The draft SPD can be viewed here:

SPD Response Form

We are now considering all responses received and making any relevant changes to the document. We aim to adopt the final SPD in 2020.

Design Guide SPD

The District Design Guide, is an update to the previous Village Design Guide. It gives clear guidelines to help promote good design in new development, and reflects the diversity of the villages in South Staffordshire and the wider, more rural areas. It also contains a section on shop front design within our Conservation Areas.

The final SPD, incorporating any modifications proposed as a result of consultation, was adopted at a council meeting on Tuesday 26 June 2018.

Sustainable Development SPD

The Sustainable Development SPD 2018 is a new SPD which contains a number of themes including sustainable transport, energy efficiency, biodiversity, sustainable drainage systems and waste management and includes a Householder Guide to Renewable Energy.

The final SPD, incorporating any modifications proposed as a result of consultation, was adopted at a council meeting on Tuesday 26 June 2018.

Green Belt and Open Countryside SPD

The Green Belt and Open Countryside SPD provides additional information on the application and interpretation of Core Strategy policies GB1 and OC1.

The final SPD, incorporating any modifications proposed as a result of consultation, was adopted at full council on Tuesday 1st April 2014.

Cannock Chase SAC

South Staffordshire Council has a duty to ensure that planning application decisions comply with the Habitats Regulations. Local Plan policy EQ2 safeguards the Cannock Chase Special Area of Conservation (SAC), which has been designated for its unique heathland habitat.
