Relief for local newspapers

A relief worth up to £1,500 per year from April 1st, 2017, until March 31st, 2025, to office space occupied by local newspapers.

Properties that will benefit from relief 

Businesses that benefit from the relief will be office space occupied by local newspapers. Relief will be awarded up to a maximum of one discount per local newspaper title and per property. 

The relief is specifically for what is considered to be a “traditional local newspaper.” The relief will not be available to magazines. 

The hereditament must be occupied by a local newspaper and wholly or mainly used as office premises for journalists and reporters. 

How much relief is available? 

A yearly £1,500 relief up to a maximum of one discount per local newspaper title and per property.

The eligibility for the relief and the relief itself will be assessed and calculated on a daily basis.

Ratepayers that occupy more than one property may be entitled to relief for each of their eligible properties, subject to State Aid De Minimis limits.
