Struggling to pay your council tax?

Council Tax Discretionary Reduction (CTDRS) is a payment that is made from a hardship fund to help with payments of Council Tax.

In the first instance if you are financially struggling, you should make an application for Council Tax Support.

If you are already in receipt of or not entitled to Council Tax Support but still struggling, you can apply for Council Tax Discretionary Reduction Scheme

Before you start the application, please ensure you have supporting information as you will need to upload these when you submit the application.

This may include

  • 2 months bank statement for each account you hold
  • proof of any debts or payment plans you have 

Supporting evidence can be sent to welfaresupport@sstaffs.gov.uk

If successful, a payment will be paid directly onto your council tax account.

As a CTDRS is not an award of benefit there are no appeal rights, however if you disagree with the decision, you can ask for this to be looked at again.
