Helping the most vulnerable households
We are making sure the most vulnerable households get direct financial help through:
- Warm Home Discount - participating energy suppliers help low-income and vulnerable households meet their energy costs
- Winter Fuel Payment - annual payment of up to £300 for pensioner households
- Cold Weather Payment - payment during periods of severely cold weather to pensioners who receive pension credit or people on income-related benefits who meet certain criteria
People we have helped
My Gran, Hinksford
Gran was struggling to keep warm at home and was always asking me to take her to Merryhill Shopping Centre. When I asked her why she said, “It was the only way she could be warm as she couldn't afford to put the heating on". I phoned the South Staffs Energy Advice Line and they helped me contact her energy supplier who said as she was on pension credit she could receive a Warm Home Discount of £140. She now also receives a Winter Fuel Payment of £200 as she is over 60 and a Cold Weather Payment of £25 when it is really cold to help her keep warm.
