The South Staffordshire Climate Change Festival
Climate change is without doubt the biggest environmental issue that we face today.
As the temperature of the earth changes, we are likely to see rising sea levels, extreme weather events, melting polar ice, flooding, a great loss in biodiversity, and mass extinction of species.
Without our urgent action these dangerous trends will continue, and we face huge challenges in the coming years. Our Climate Change Festival is just one way we're looking to make, facilitate and promote positive change across the district.
What are we doing?
Climate Emergency
As a council we have declared a climate emergency and are committed to local action on climate change within the district.
We understand the importance of reducing the carbon footprint of our own operations and services, while engaging with our residents and partners to develop local action within our communities.
Strategy and Action Plan
We have developed a Climate Change Strategy and we have a Climate Change Action Plan.
These provide a range of both strategic and operational activities.
Calendar of events
We are working hard to develop a calendar of events that will enable our residents to get involved in the year-long festival and hopefully make positive changes to their lifestyles and our environment.
The Climate Festival seeks to celebrate these local events at the local level.
The calendar can be found here and will be updated throughout the year with new events.
Climate Prize
We are also excited to reveal our own Climate Prize.
Applications will open soon for grant funding to local community groups, businesses and schools, to support their own projects in the fight against climate change.
These projects could be nature based, working to improve air quality, tackling flood risk, reducing waste, or energy reduction.
