Shrub Pruning & Hedge Cutting
We carry out sightline pruning during May and June each year and the annual prune which takes around five months to complete is carried out between October and February. Hedge cutting is carried out in the autumn, after the bird nesting season. More details on each of these operations can be found below.

Sightline Pruning
Sightline pruning is carried out during May and June. It is the pruning back of any shrubs belonging to the Council that are causing or threatening to cause a nuisance or danger to pedestrians or vehicles, by affecting sightlines or encroaching over paths, roads, or hard surfaces.

Annual Pruning
The annual prune commences in October and takes five months to complete. As well as undertaking work as detailed within sightline pruning, the annual prune includes reducing shrubs in height for the purpose of building a strong framework, maintaining shape and balance thus keeping shrubs healthy and vigorous, so producing the maximum amount of flowering wood. Arisings are either removed or chipped back into the shrub bed to act as a mulch.
