Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner 2024 election

The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner election takes place on May 2nd 2024. Information about the election and key dates for the election can be found below.

Registering to vote

The last day to register to vote for the election is midnight on the 16th April. If you are not registered to vote, please go to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Apply for a voter authority certificate to use as voter ID

You will need to apply for a voter authority certificate by 5pm on the 24th April. If you need to apply for a voter authority certificate, please go to https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate.  Or if you need additional support please fill in our online form

Choosing to vote by post

You can apply for a postal vote online at www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote. Alternatively, you can fill in our online form

We will need to receive your postal vote application (either online or physically in our office) by 5pm on 24th April election to put this in place for this election. Any postal vote applications received after this time (including applications received by post after this time) will not be able to be processed for this election.

Cancelling or changing an existing postal vote

To cancel an existing postal vote, you must inform us in writing. This can be done by emailing the Elections team atelections@sstaffs.gov.uk or writing in to Elections team, South Staffordshire Council, Wolverhampton Road, Codsall, WV8 1PX .

We will need to receive your cancellation by 5pm 11 working days before the election.

Choosing to vote by proxy

To appoint someone to vote on your behalf as a proxy, you will need to complete a proxy vote application. You can apply for a proxy vote online at www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote

We will need to receive this is in the office by 5pm on the 24th April. Any proxy vote applications received after this time will not be processed for this election.

Voting by emergency proxy

Emergency proxies are for medical, work or lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged photo ID related issues that have arisen after the proxy deadline on 5pm 6 working days before the election.

We will need to receive completed emergency proxy applications by 5pm on poll day.

Accessibility in polling stations

Where possible, each polling station will have equipment available for electors such as:

  • ramps for access
  • pencil grips or easy grip pencils for voters with dexterity issues
  • chairs for those unable to stand for long periods
  • magnifying glass to increase text size on documents
  • large print ballot papers
  • Assistance at a polling station

You are also allowed to take a carer, relative or friend with you to a polling station if you need additional assistance, though the person you bring with you must be aged 18 or over.

Alternatively, if you would prefer help from our polling station staff, just ask and they will be happy to assist.
