Strategic Housing Market Assessment

It is essential that the Council understands the whole housing market and can develop sound and robust approaches to preparing and reviewing local planning and housing strategies.

The most recent Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) published in 2017 aims to enable the Council to understand the nature and level of housing demand and need within South Staffordshire. It can also inform the Council's Business Planning Process, as well as to identify targets for investment. The study was carried out by Peter Brett Associates (PBA), experienced and independent consultants.

This SHMA is a joint study and covers South Staffordshire and the four Black Country Authorities of Dudley MBC, Sandwell MBC, Walsall MBC and City of Wolverhampton Council.

We will consider whether the SHMA needs to be updated as part of the current Local Plan review.
