Bereavement Services

South Staffordshire Council oversees two cemeteries in the district, Sytch Lane Cemetery in Wombourne and Strawberry Lane Cemetery in Great Wyrley. It is our aim to provide a sympathetic, helpful and considerate service to the bereaved and to ensure this is delivered in a dignified, caring and sensitive way.

Opening Times

Both cemeteries are open every day of the year at the following times:

1 April to 30 September from 9.00 am to 8.00 pm.

1 October to 31 March from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm.

PLEASE NOTE: The gates at both cemeteries open and close automatically at the times stated above. Therefore, please ensure that you allow plenty of time to vacate the cemetery prior to the closing time. In the event of being locked in there is a green button at the side of the gates which will release one gate only. This button will only work for 15 minutes after the gates have closed and will only release one gate meaning that there will be no exit for vehicles until the gates re-open at 9.00 am the following day.

We understand that losing someone close to you is an extremely difficult time and it is important to us that we offer you clear advice and guidance to help you to decide what is best for you and your family. We try to accommodate all reasonable requests although please be aware that there may be times when requests cannot be granted due to legislation and necessary rules and regulations.

On our website you'll find useful information about our cemeteries and the types of grave plots and memorials available, as well as practical information about what to do when someone passes away and details of organisations that can help.

Pre-Purchasing of Plots

Grave plots at both cemeteries are available to pre-purchase in advance or can be purchased at the time of need. You can choose which plot you would like to pre-purchase within certain sections at both of the cemeteries.

If you are interested in pre-purchasing a plot please get in touch with Bereavement Services on 01902 696000 or by email at bereavementservices@sstaffs.gov.uk and we can discuss the different options with you.
